BIOS Upgrade

#1 Post by emeraldgirl08 » Thu Jul 30, 2009 11:40 am

I am not sure if my BIOS and embedded controller are a definite must for upgrade.

Is there any R52 specialist who can tell me I need to if:

a) BIOS Version 1.17
b)Embedded Controller 1.03

I upgraded my T30 to the latest versions before but have not done so with the R52. I also am not sure the right steps to take to upgrade. I read the pages on the Lenovo site and BIOS 1.29 is requiring an Embedded Controller version 1.04.

What do I do so I don't "brick" my R52???

This is such an easy question to answer I don't even have to look at what the latest BIOS does. The answer is "if it ain't broke don't fix it ". :). Unless you need a specific function or feature fixed or added with the latest BIOS do not flash it. You can see the list of changes with the BIOS versions via the links off of the driver page at Lenovo.

For example - Version 76ET69WW (1.29)
Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.05 (or higher).

* (New) Support for Windows Vista.

If you are not running Vista, you do not need it.

There is no BIOS support for Win 7 yet on any current Thinkpad.

I've noticed people will use Vista drivers and sometimes XP drives to make things work. I haven't been successful with my Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG card is why.
