Warranty Upgrade Part Number

#1 Post by ZaZ » Sun Aug 02, 2009 10:23 am

I was thinking about upgrading my warranty. I called the other day to get a new keyboard and apparently my R60 has on-site warranty. I was wondering if anyone knew the part number for an upgrade from three years of on-site to five and ballpark, how much it was going to cost me? Thanks for any help.

I ended up buying from Lenovo for a T43, it was $199 to upgrade onsite 3 yr to onsite 5 yr, PN 43R2162. I had difficulty getting info from resellers on my specific warranty so I played it safe and went direct.

Thanks for the reply. I gathered the part numbers are different by warranty and machine type. My R60's upgrade would have a different part number than you T43, but pricing information is good to know.

Here is link to the WSU list:

I bought these packs from discount vendors and hasn't had a problem activating them yet, knock on wood.

For a while, the Outlet store was including 3 yr warranty to move machines. I think they eventually stopped. :(

Thanks for the link. It looks like I can find it via google for around $160. Anyone know how to get it for less? I'm not sure whether I should upgrade the warranty as I've already made several warranty voiding upgrades to my R60, but thanks again for the info.

If they find a mod that did cause the problem, yes, that will not be good.

If the mod has nothing to do with the problem, I've never had a complaint from IBM/Lenovo service. For instance, the LCD had to be replaced in my T60 but I had installed the 11n 3rd antenna in the LCD housing. The tech put everything back including my contraband antenna.

Interesting question. I swapped out the screen for a IPS screen. I kind of figured there was no warranty on that. I also swapped out the CPU, which would they even notice that? Most of the other parts like the keyboard or the WiFi card if one were to fail could be had for less than the cost of the warranty and I'm perfectly capable of doing myself. I also bought a used Blu-ray drive on eBay, which I'm assuming isn't covered either. The motherboard would be the big one I guess or if there was some problem I couldn't figure. You could probably find a used board in that range, probably a bit more. I'm kind of leaning against it, but wanted more information. Thanks for the replies.

Wow, you did change out a lot.

They have barcodes on the CPU and would have MB id on record for sure. Since they charge arm and a leg for LCDs, many owners would have fixed cracked LCDs outside of IBM/Lenovo. So I doubt they would hassle you on the LCD.

Yes, I did have a bit of free time and bit of loose change in my pocket. I do seem to recall a bar code on the CPU when I swapped the CPU, but would they even notice that? The warranty on the screen is no good to me anyway as if goes, they'd just give another crappy screen that's like the one that came on it. I already got one of those.
