You need a 2.5" laptop hard drive with an IDE interface. Sometimes the IDE interface is also referred to as ATA6.

thanks but:
Type 1836-3SU
lenovo says
Supported HDD thickness: 2.5mm for all systems
Standard 30GB, 40GB, 60GB, 80GB HDD sizes.
Supports one additional HDD which can be used concurrently to offer expanded storage in the Ultrabay Slim
S.M.A.R.T technology to issue an alert if a hardware failure is pending
ATA Bus Interface
4200 rpm, 7200 rpm also what about 5400?
Although you can upgrade the hard disk drive, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, can cause damage to the system. The Ultrabay Slim hard disk drive adapter is designed to provide this flexibility with a second hard disk drive in the Ultrabay Enhanced.
harryc I trust you but still confuse
Mac Mini 10.8, iPad First Generation Jailbroken, T61 10.5.8

You need a 2.5" laptop hard drive with an IDE interface. Speed is up to you but 4200, 5400, or 7200rpm will work.
Here, I'll make it easy for you...any of the drives listed at this Newegg link will work in that machine;

That Toshiba drive will work, but it will be slow at 4200rpm as compared to a 5400 or 7200rpm drive.

Harryc I understand but i got this R50 to play with different OS X bistros with out been with no good computer in case of a difficulty so i was trying to pay the lease but this R50 is a good model I am considering installing a better one 5400 or 7200 I may do that.
Another question the video card is a ATI/32/9000 can that be switch for a ATI/128/fire? If yes. Is that hard to do?

You can't switch the video card (GPU) without replacing the planar (motherboard) because it is soldered in place. So the answer is no, it is not easily doable.

The thickness in one of the posts above should read 9.5 mm instead of 2.5 mm
