Thinkpad R61i

#1 Post by makaveli559m » Fri Aug 14, 2009 3:14 am

Hi I was wondering has anyone upgraded a Thinkpad R61i with the T5250 to a T5500? I tried but it doesnt work even though it is the same socket type. Do I need to upgrade my bios? My chipset is the 965 chipset with the Intel X3100 graphics. The cpu is from a Lenovo 3000 N100.

The T5500 is a different and and incompatible socket. Socket M vs. Socket P, I think they are called.

T5550 would be a different story.

Any Socket P Merom Core 2 Duo:

T5x50, T7100, T7250, T7300, T7500, T7700

Penryn Core 2 Duos (T8100/T8300/T9300/T9500) may work, depending on the motherboard/BIOS revision.

The T5250 to T5500 hardly seem worth the trouble. If you were going to go to one of the T7x00 CPUs, then maybe. I'd add unless you're doing CPU intensive tasks all the time, I doubt the CPU makes a big difference either way. Upgrading to a faster hard drive, if you're not done so already, will likely yield more snappy performance.
