r52 with radeon video card freezing after about 10 min

hi , i hope im not adding a thread that already exists somewhere else.....

my ibm thinkpad r 52 has a radeon video card and after logging into world of warcraft or any video it either freezes or goes black after about 10 min or so. it always worked fine. im not sure if its the video card, prosessor, or power supply cord. my power cord is spliced so it could possibly be that...im sooo frustrated with this, so i hope someone can shed light on this problem. also, i was wondering how hard installing a new video card is in a r 52

Sorry to hear of your problem. Which power cord is spliced, from the wall to the adapter or the adapter to the ThinkPad? Have you another adapter to try? If your video card is bad, the only way to replace it is to swap out the motherboard (planar), because the video card is soldered to it. Some people have the card solder reflowed or reballed, or try reflowing it themselves, with mixed results. Several threads around have more info. Good luck.

This could also be overheating of the CPU. The thermal paste dries out after ca. 5 years.
