#1 Post by marco1959 » Thu Oct 01, 2009 2:08 pm

Hi everybody,
I got some Thinkpad A31 (2652-M3G) ,some of them working...I am trying to fix the rest...
Do anybody knows if it will boot with external monitor but LCD flat disconnected?
Just an other question...I would like to add a bluetooth module but I am concerning
about the missing of the BT button on the A31 I have, will the doughter card that lenovo list for the A31 works without it? (12P3872) Have I to find a different clear plate with the BT button?
Thank you
Marco

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, with an external monitor, and disconnected LCD cable, it should boot.
Don't know if BT will work without the BT-button and LED.
See also: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 57107.html
Finding a new LCD cable with BT and clear-plate will not be easy.
You'll also need a BT-antenna.

PS: your machine is an A31. (A61 never existed).

I'm running a T23 on an external monitor only (TFT removed) without trouble.
Should work on a A31, I guess.

Yes, BT works without the on-LCD button. Turning them on can be a challenge. It shows up in AC sometimes.

No A31 unit left the factory with bluetooth, according to HMM, that was reserved for high-end A30p and A31p machines.

Therefore, there's no clear plate with BT button/insignia for A31 units.

Consequently, I don't know how you're intent on hooking it up in the first place, although I'm certain it's doable.

Good luck and keep us posted.

The factory BT antenna is a plate behind the RS-232 serial port. Which is rare. I normally use the inch long Hitachi Cable antenna with a short lead. They seemed to have gone off the market now.

But any 2.4Ghz WiFi antenna should work. Since BT devices are usually used close to the computer, placement of the antenna is not critical. One of those tiny USB BT devices work too.

Hi,
thanks to everybody for suggestions,I am waiting for a BTDC I bought on Ebay
together with a 7200 rpm IDE HDD
I understood that the 2 wires coming from BT button in the A31p clear plate could have place in a A31p mainboard only
Am I right or wrong?
Could the Fn+F5 function turn on the BT?
Ciao from Italy
Marco

Fn+F5 will not turn anything on when it comes to A3x series machines.

Hi,
just an update about BT ...
I missed that the BT button is on the inverter card  I installed a BMDC200 and it works fine with the driver listed under X31 model on Lenovo site (21Mb approx) the modem works too.
It just will need a small hole in the clear plate to push the BT button
I got just today a 2.2Ghz P4m ,it works... the BIOS (updated) recognize it (it "says" 2.2 Ghz)
BUT it seem do not go at 2.2 ..Win XP says 1200 Mhz,CPU-z the same (100x12) ...
Not sure about power management sw installed ,but I set always max performance on bios setting.
Am I forgotting something? The machine is a 2652-M3G (A31) I saw that more than few people on this forum had upgraded the A31 up at 2.4Ghz...
Thanks

My suspicion is that you are running the A31 without a battery or with a dead battery. The A31 will not run at full speed in Windows without a working battery installed.
