updated ram now recieving memory error message
updated ram now recieving memory error message
ok me again, upgraded my laptop to 2 g's memory from the original 512m. My R51 is having a problem now, shuts down then keeps retarting with error messages, one memory error message, them windows error messages. Do I need to upgrade the bios too?
Update; now I am able to get into winxp and occasionaly after opening internet explorer I receive error messages saying windows incountered an eeror an is shutting down then goes to a blue error screen and restarts.
Checked the system information and shows 2 g's installed. Window messages occasional pop up saying windows corrected some errors.
I am able to write this follow up using the laptop for sometime now and haven't received any error messages. Is the ram just getting used to the change?

Re: memory error message
Must agree, sounds like you have faulty RAM or RAM that sint fully compatable with your machine. You could also use PC-Doctor from IBM. Create the self bootable CD so nothing else interferes & run the memory tests.
Some people are like Slinkies................... they are really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs!

Re: updated ram now recieving memory error message
You download a file to make either a self-booting floppy, or get the .iso version to burn a CD with.
You boot the laptop from either floppy or CD to run the test.
