Sound deactivated after installing bluetooth

#1 Post by mapleleaf » Sun Oct 18, 2009 2:07 pm

Hello on this nice October weekend. I have a R61i TP, Win XP Pro. SP3. Yesterday I decided to finally pair my pc with my cell phone via bluetooth. Everything went fine and only later that day did I notice that my sound for playing mp3 files, videos, tv tuner, and windows system sounds would no longer work. No sound whatsoever. I played around a bit trying to troubleshoot the hardware but couldn't make the sound reapear. Eventually I just played back a Acronis backup from the previous day and I got my sound back.
Now, I would still like to have bluetooth and sound, but am not sure how to go about it? I did a search, and although it had various threads on sound/audio, its not really giving me any advice on my problem. Any ideas?
Grateful as always!
Lukas

There are several device profiles for BT devices. You may have selected a "headset" profile and the sound went to the BT headset. In the pairing process, make sure the correct device type is selected for the phone.

@ sjthinkpader: At first I was wondering the same thing if because two devices are paired together, that somehow it deactivates my audio. The strange thing is that the audio gets turned off/disabled before I even get to set a profile for a new device.

This is what happens:
- I turn on bluetooth via Fn + F5, in my taskbar as well as on display it says installing bluetooth hardware.
- Then a few more pop ups come up in my taskbar one by one (rather quickly), then it says device is ready to be used.
- Then a window pops up on screen, to set a new profile.
- Just for a split few minutes I see some audio window come up and go in the taskbar (too fast to see what is going on)
- After that, sound is no longer available, although the speakers are on/cranked to max

When I procede to then pair the phone with my pc, I get an error message something along the lines of : Error Sound not available, audio pairing failed.

Do I maybe have an old sound driver? How can I check for an update?

Thanks
Lukas

There are two sets of BT utilities, Windows native and Lenovo (Broadcom). You can try removing the Broadcom BT stack and use the Windows one.

Audio drivers are usually pretty stable. You can check whether they have an update.
