HD crapped out! :-(

#1 Post by g8r1fl » Wed Oct 28, 2009 2:42 pm

I have a TP z60m and have been very happy with it. This morning out of nowhere it started making loud noises and stopped working. Hard reset and it never recovered. I just bought a 320GB Hitachi Travelstar 5K320 to replace the 80GB that came with my TP. My questions is will i be able to use my restore CD's to restore everything even though the HD sizes differ?

I was going to buy directly from Lenovo but it was going to take about a week and a half to get it. I was concerned about the APS but read a post that it will still work with aftermarket HD.

Thanks for the help. :(

Welcome to the forum!

Your restore disks will work on any size hard drive, and you bought a very good one in my opinion.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick answer and welcome. Is there any way for me to try to salvage some data from the bad drive? I have a backup but it's been a few months unfortunately.

You could buy the ultrabay or an external case to put the drive and see if you can get any data off that way.

Furthermore, you can boot from a "live" Linux CD and save the important files to an USB flash drive.
