R51 2888 freezes when you pull out the A/C power cord?

#1 Post by Smokestoomuch » Wed Oct 28, 2009 10:40 pm

Any PC doctors in the house? :D I have an R51 type 2888 that locks up the processor nearly every time you yank out the power cord. It also freezes up when you add the power cord but this doesn't happen as often as when you yank it out. I've done everything I can think to trouble shoot this but have come up empty. Any ideas?

Try pulling instead of yanking!
That could be a sign of a bad battery or a bad charging circuit.
Did you swap the battery yet?
You say you have a pile of these 2888...

I don't know the answer, but I'm wondering how the unit behaves if you plug it in, charge it, and unplug it while it's off, hibernating, or in standby. After you unplug it and resume, does the unit behave properly? Is it charged or are there still lock-up issues if you use that workaround to charge your battery?

It freezes no matter the charger, no matter the battery. I even changed out the yellow a/c cord socket. I haven't tried the hibernate test bet I'll let you know.

Try downloading Ubuntu or another Linux based OS that will run off the CD without installing. Run that and see if the symptoms still occur. This will help you figure out if its a software or hardware issue.
