HELP - R60 DualCore 1.66 only runs at 0.997Ghz
HELP - R60 DualCore 1.66 only runs at 0.997Ghz
I seem to have a problem with my system.
Some time ago I upgraded to the Zender Bios with no issues. Everything seemed to be working fine. I then found my machine to be running slow, so downloaded a few cpu information programs to see what was going on.
This is when I found the processor was only running at 0.997Ghz. A tempory cure seemed to be leaving the battery installed (which I don't like doing).
I had a few issues with my OS (Vista Ultimate) which I decided to leave until my copy of windows 7 arrived.
I did a clean install of windows 7 not even using the migration tool or settings transfer program.
It looked like everything was back too normal, until yesterday, when I opened Word 2007 when I noticed some problems again. It was nearly impossible to use as I could type a sentance of atleast 10 words before it appeared on the screen.
I downloaded CPU-Z and again my processor speed is back down to 0.9Ghz even with the battery installed.
I've checked everything I can think of in both bios and windows to either disable speed stepping or set to maximum performance.
Please help, my system seems to be nearly unusable for anything other than web browsing.

Re: HELP - R60 DualCore 1.66 only runs at 0.997Ghz
Welcome to the Forum.
Your Word problem should improve, when you install SP1 and/or SP2 for Office 2007.
I run a T60 with Zender BIOS, without any problems (XP-Pro/SP3).
For a TP to run at full speed, it must always have both AC connected and a (working) battery installed.
It could be that your CPU only runs at the speed it needs, depending on the load, rather than the speed YOU want.
Perhaps W7 has something to do with that?
Did you have the same problems in Vista?

The problem was even worse worse with Vista.
I do have a good battery and ac connected now at all times but still suffer the same problems.
As for speed stepping as required in windows 7, my CPU usage is at 100% most of the time.
SP's for office are being installed at present. Having not used office since Windows 7 i'd forgotten about getting them.
Currently I've got 68 processes (while installing SP's and running Acronis True Image), 100% CPU Load and 43% physical memory.
System is R60 9456HTG, T5500 1.66Ghz and 3GB Ram, Win 7 HP

I'm not familiar with W7, but I've read that the system does an awful lot of indexing in the first week or 2 after installation.
That could explain the high CPU load. This should abate after a while.
Have you installed an AV or have you caught a virus or trojan already, which is thrashing your machine?

Had windows 7 on since it was released. Hoped it would improve the situation.
1st thing I did was put AV and Firewall on, do a full system scan every day with no results. SP's have improved office no end, but still the cpu is not budging about .99Ghz.

Re: HELP - R60 DualCore 1.66 only runs at 0.997Ghz
Is that a retail W7 or a Lenovo W7?
Apparently Lenovo has tweaked their drivers etc. for W7 to a high degree, and it runs way better than a retail W7 with manual Lenovo drivers installation.
Did you install all the necessary Thinkpad stuff?
And if you by any chance installed AVG, that seems to be a dog under W7...

Its a Retail version of W7.
I did do a thinkpad update at first but not run it again since.
I'll give that ago and see, Running Kaspersky IS 2010
