R61 Pinkish/orange tint to bottom left corner of screen
I've had my Lenovo R61e for a bit over 1.5 years. Yesterday I noticed an alarming reddish tint to the bottom left corner of the screen. It persisted after a restart, but disappeared after leaving the laptop off overnight (which I always do anyway). The tint reappeared over the course of today.
I have not pressed on the screen, and although there is a slight temperature difference due to the fan being right beneath there, it doesn't feel like enough to damage the screen. About 1" from the bottom left to about the centre of the screen is affected. The rest is fine.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Pinkish tint to the LCD is usually attributed to a CCFL backlight going bad.

Is it normal for the backlight to die this soon?

No it is not normal. Is the machine still under warranty? Something like that would be covered ...

The warranty is up. I do have family members working for IBM though. I'll see if I can get in on any discount replacement parts
