R51 simple password setup procedure?

#1 Post by silasH » Thu Feb 17, 2005 11:34 pm

Can someone please provide a simple, step-by-step procedure for installing a password on a R51. I simply want to keep anyone other than myself from using the computer. I've downloaded the IBM security software. Have not installed it. Seems to be complicated and MORE than I want/need. Thanks.

If you want to be safer set up the Supervisor password or HDD password instead of the power on password, since it can be removed easily why the other two cannot.

You're welcome. But I would second Guru's suggestion that you setup your Supervisor PW and HD as well.

I have all of the PWs set on my systems. It doesn't prevent their being liberated by some ne'er do well, but it does give me some satisfaction knowing that without the expenditure of a great deal of time and/or money on their part, they will have liberated a door stop!

Thanks all for the information. Got it done. Set all three passwords. Sounded like the best way to go.
