Contacting James Arndt (jamiphar)

#1 Post by L. Unruh » Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:10 pm

James Arndt did repair work on my A31 14 months ago. His work was excellent and reasonable.

For another repair (in no way related to previous repair James did) I've tried to contact him with email and also using the repair form on his web site.

It's been over three weeks and there is no response from James to either of my contact efforts.

Is he no longer handling repairs? If not, is there a recommendation for someone who handles repairs to A31's?

Someone of the staff can check when he was last on the forum.
What sort of repairs do you need done?

According to his profile his last activity was on November 10th. I used to have his card, but can't find it now of course.

Have you tried calling the number posted on his website?

the soundmax audio has quit working on my A31. trying to install the soundmax driver (after uninstalling it from the system) always results in an error msg "driver not found, reboot system and try again", just as shown from the thkpad forum posting that i attached. the sound options are grayed out.

ALSO- i cannot get my system to restore (i was attempting to go back to a restore point hoping that would get soundmax working again). it starts the process, then i get a "cannot restore" msg and that's the end of that.

i'm at a dead end on these two issues. i knew james could handle whatever (repairs) needed to be done.

When you download/install a driver from Lenovo, it only extracts files into C:\Drivers\xxxxx
You need to run the setup.exe in that C:\Drivers\xxxxx directory.

As to Restore not working: you may have no (or not enough) restore points left...

Or just Start -> Run -> C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE

A failing sound ship is a known issue on A31 units.

Try booting from a "live" Linux CD, and if you still get no sound, start shopping for a PCMCIA sound card.

Good luck.
