Power problem with R51, won't work on battery power.

#1 Post by njdjh2o » Thu Dec 31, 2009 3:22 pm

A couple day ago, my R51 Windows XP SP3 was working fine when switch to battery power. One day I unplugged it from the outlet and it turned completely off. I didn't notice any popping or cracking noise, nothing smelled burnt.

Things, I notice:

Battery states it fully charged and operational, light stays green and it stop flickering when it is fully charged. It stays a solid steady green.

In the Power management, I switch everything to NEVER to see if that works, didn't. If I remove the battery the program notice that the battery have been removed and replaced.

Tried doing the battery in and out 5 times while holdind down the power button.

It works fine on AC power, as soon as I unplug it from the outlet is go off, no shut down, just turns off.

I am thinking it is the battery, but the battery was holding a two hour run time prior to this, then all of sudden nothing.

Had this problem with my R40 - be very careful - when you are using your R51 now, make sure that the AC adapter doesn't come loose whilist you are working, if it does (and this is what happended to my R40 and it sounds like you have a similar problem) then the motherboard will die, and the whole thing becomes useless.

I'm thinking it's a motherboard problem here, the battery seems fine to me.
