right click buttons non functional

#1 Post by toddreg » Sat Jan 02, 2010 9:47 am

Trying to get my dad's old R40 working right. He can find more ways to screw it up. Anyway neither of the right click buttons on the keyboard work. The left works right most of the time however sometimes neither will work and I have to reboot. I have restored windows back to a point I know everything was ok with no luck.

Another interesting thing is that sometimes upon boot up moving the mouse will create the box outline on the screen. Like when you press and hold the left mouse button and drag the cursor on your desktop, it makes the outline of a box that you are resizing as you move the cursor.

Something is screwed up. A USB mouse functions properly all the time. Any ideas???

In your mouse settings (and/or ultranav settings) you probably have the left and right buttons reversed.
Control Panel/double click on Mouse/Buttons tab/ UNtick Switch primary and secondary buttons.

You may have a bad keyboard AND a bad touchpad.
Both can be replaced.
There's a 15" R40 keyboard and a touchpad for sale cheap in the Marketplace: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=81893
Both items will also fit a 14" machine, just in case.

You may be right but what are the odds of both failing at the same time? How do I get the keyboard off to clean underneath it in case something was spilled on it?
