Screen Doesn't Turn Back On After Lid is Closed - R61e

#1 Post by Angie » Sat Jan 02, 2010 3:36 pm

Hello -

I'm going to confess that I know almost nothing about laptops, so I'm hoping someone can help me. I have the R61e and for the last few days, I can't get the screen to come back on after I open the lid. I can see the hard drive light at the bottom of the screen (on the plastic cover, not actual screen) flashing and can hear the hard drive, but the screen stays black. I have to press and hold the power button to shut down the laptop and restart it completely. I've tried manually putting the laptop into Sleep mode (which is what I believe closing the lid does) through the Start menu without closing the lid and the screen comes back on fine. I've read that there might be a problem with the lid switch, but I hate to admit that I can't figure out where it is on my laptop. I know what it's supposed to look like, but I just don't see anything like that.

Any ideas of what I should do from here? Thanks so much for your help!

Welcome to the Forum.
If you are running Vista, there's a setting about open/close the lid that doesn't work properly.
You can fix that with a BIOS update;
Version 2.22 / ECP: 1.08
* (New) Supports Microsoft Windows 7. (addition)
* (Fix) Fixed an issue where the external display might have blank screen after closing the lid "When I close the lid: Do nothing" was selected in Power Options on Windows Vista.
