I have a couple of question about my R51 1836-BAU
I have a couple of question about my R51 1836-BAU
Ok, first question is about Bluetooth.
I have a option to install bluetooth on my R51, which of course I did, the card was $5.00 so not lost. But what it is for?
Second, I tried to put a 1.8 Ghz CPU from a R40 and it wouldn't turn on, same socket?, but I was able to run a 1.3 Ghz CPU.
Why couldn't I run the 1.8Ghz?
Third, is when I first turn on the laptop the screen is pink, I hear it could be the screen itself or the CCF, I have both from a parts R51, but the assembly do not come with the bluetooth wire, which I would like to keep.
Thanks
Steven

Re: I have a couple of question about my R51 1836-BAU
Bluetooth allows you to connect bluetooth capable devices wirelessly to the laptop..e.g. mice, keyboards, PDS's, cell phones, etc.
Here's a list of what CPUs originally went into the various models of R40 -
Processor
Available processors:
Intel Mobile Pentium 4 Processor-M at 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.2, or 2.4GHz
Intel Mobile Celeron processor at 1.6, 1.8 or 2.0GHz
Intel Pentium M Processor at 1.3, 1.4, or 1.5 GHz
So assuming your 1.8 from the R40 is a Pentium 4M, that would not work in an R51 which takes a Pentium M CPU...like the 1.3, 1.4, or 1.5 listed above.
A pink display is due to a bad CCFL.

The Bluetooth on my R51 didn't detect my BlackBerry Storm, unless I did it wrong. So, you saying if I get the bluetooth mouse and Keyboard and hook my laptop up to my TV, I can lay in bed and still be able to control it like it is on my lap? Nice.Harryc wrote:Bluetooth allows you to connect bluetooth capable devices wirelessly to the laptop..e.g. mice, keyboards, PDS's, cell phones, etc.

I would be swapping that CCFL out tonight.
So, Ihave very limited option for upgrading the CPU on my R51, I have a 1.6 installed on my laptop. Where can I get the 2.0 for the it, I haven't seen any with that configuation.
Thanks,

Your R51 can be upgraded with any of the following Pentium M CPUs:
1.7 = PM 735
1.8 = PM 745
2.0 = PM 755
2.1 = PM 765
Any of these would present a worthwhile upgrade, for the simple fact that they have 2MB L2 cache as opposed to 1MB on your current CPU.

I have a similar setup on my A31 (except it's not internal bluetooth, it's a bluetooth USB dongle).njdjh2o wrote:The Bluetooth on my R51 didn't detect my BlackBerry Storm, unless I did it wrong. To connect a device, the Bluetooth on the PHONE and on the LAPTOP must be turned on or made discoverable (it's the same thing!). Once you have turned on bluetooth on both your laptop and your BlackBerry Storm, find your bluetooth settings on the Storm and there is probably an option for search for new devices, search for the new device (the R51) and when it detects it, it will come up with a name for the R51, the name will be whatever your R51 is called, for example - my PC is called STEALTH, so that is what the bluetooth name is(you can change it later). Once you are happy that your phone has DEFINITELY found your R51, you can enable a partnership. You usually have to use a passkey to do this, but I don't on mine as I tend to forget them!! And then hopefully once you've enabled a partnership, your phone and R51 will be connected!
It can be quite complicated doing this, in my "bluetooth neighbourhood" I have my PC, my ThinkPad A31, my PDA and my Vodafone 527 all connected together via bluetooth. It's really good once it's all set up and file sharing is easy.
Hope this helps!
