External LCD Resolution via VGA Port
External LCD Resolution via VGA Port
I have a R60 with the X1300 GPU. I bought a 32" 1920x1080 LCD TV to use as a monitor because it sits kind of far away. It's hooked up the LCD via the VGA port. When I go to display properties the best resolution I can get is 1366x768 and it doesn't fill the screen. When I looked at ATI's CCC, the best resolution I could get is 1400x1050, which is the resolution of my internal monitor. Is there some way I can get this to work? Thanks for any help.

Re: External LCD Resolution via VGA Port
I suggest you to read the HDTV's manual first. I bought a 28" 1920x1200 Hannspree HDTV last month and had a similar problem: the highest I could get through VGA was only 1680x1050. Then I found out from the manual that in order to get the native res, I needed to use the HDMI input; VIA input is limited to 1680x1050. See if your 32" TV has the same limitation. To get HDMI from your R60, you will need a DVI-to-HDMI adapter.

Thanks PW. I bought a DVI to HDMI cable. We'll see if that does the trick.

Re: External LCD Resolution via VGA Port
I got the DVI to HDMI cable in the mail yesterday. It did the trick in terms of the resolution, but now the text in FF, explorer, etc,, seems kind of blocky. Anything I should be looking at there? Thanks for any help.

Excellent! Perhaps someday I should get the same kind of cable for my 28" HDTV too.FredGarvin wrote:It did the trick in terms of the resolution
Maybe that's just because you aren't used to seeing the pixels magnified so much? 1080p may be called "full High Def" by TV makers, but compared to computer screens, 1080p is actually pathetically low for a 32" LCD, causing the pixels to look very large. I recommend you to see if ClearType helps. Also, see if the HDTV has an "auto adjust" button, though I doubt this would help because the DVI input shouldn't need any further adjustment. But try pressing the "auto adjust" button anyway.FredGarvin wrote:the text in FF, explorer, etc,, seems kind of blocky.

Re: External LCD Resolution via VGA Port
I have a 37" WUXGA that sits a foot or so farther away and it seems fine to me. It's running Linux. That may make may make some difference. I'll definitely try the clear type and auto adjust. Maybe I'll throw my Vista image back on there to see if that helps any. Thanks again.
