Does a T9500 fit with R61?

#1 Post by deckarudo » Thu Jan 21, 2010 12:21 pm

Hi,

I would like to upgrade my ThinkPad R61 (8918-5QG) with a new CPU. It's powered with a slow T7100 (1,8 GHz, FSB 800 MHz) and I would like to switch it for a T9500 2.6G/6M/Q4KK (which shares many characteristics with the T7100). My R61 is equipped with 965 mobile chipset.

Have you ever done that kind of upgrade?

Thank you!

Guillaume

most of the R61 motherboards don't support Penryn CPUs. In general, unless your machine came with a penryn or the board was replaced with a penryn-compatible MB, you're out-of-luck.

The best you could upgrade to would be either a T7700 or T7800 (2.4 and 2.6 GHz respectively).
