A31 Graphics Driver Question

#1 Post by msmithr99 » Mon Feb 01, 2010 7:56 am

I have a a31 that i had to reinstall the xp pro os system. for some reason, the graphics driver will not install. I don't get any error messages, just the yellow question mark under device manager next to video. I have run belarc and it shows no display. The standby choice is greyed out when I select start shutdown also.

I am using the driver from the driver download from the lenovo web sit for this computer.

Any help is greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to learn you are having problems. What is the seven character type number for your machine?

We need to make sure you have the correct driver, and that it was installed correctly. After you downloaded the driver and unpacked it, did you open the folder it was unpacked into and install from there?

I have an A31, and I had the same problem... after re installing XP.
Go into device manager (My Computer > System Properties > Hardware > Device Manager), go to the question mark icon, click "VGA Video driver" (or whatever it's called), update the driver and tell the wizard to search for updated drivers on the internet. It takes about 5 - 10 minutes to download and install the drivers. When you are finished, it will have installed the driver for ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 - reboot your machine and away you go! (hopefully)

The seven character number is 2652 P3U. I have made sure this is correct and I am downloading the correct driver. Does it matter what order the drivers are installed in? Do I need to uninstall the previous driver to install a new one? Thanks for all your help

Thanks for giving us the type number. It's usually helpful, but in this case, not so much. I wasn't sure if all A31 use the ATI 7500, but looks like they do. If I were you, I would try the driver George linked for you in a post above.

Doesn't seem to matter much what order drivers are installed in. Sometimes it seems to help if the chipset driver is installed before anything else... And it usually doesn't matter if you install a new driver over an older one. Used to it was recommended to completely remove an old ATI driver before installing a new one, but I haven't really done that in years.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the ATI folder from the link george provided, however, I don't know how to proceed from there. I tried to manually point to this folder for the driver but the "ok" button was greyed out so this maybe a simple step but I don't know how to use this file. Thanks

The link is to a "zip" file, have you un-zipped it? I haven't looked at the file, but there will probably be a setup.exe link in the folder once it's un-zipped. If not, try pointing to it again once it's un-zipped.
