Thinkpad A22P Power uup/Boot issue.

#1 Post by THINKPAD1028 » Sun Mar 14, 2010 7:41 pm

Hi, New to the Forum...
I have a similiar " behavior " on a A22P someone gave up on. On the bidirectional
card edge connector for the memory ( SMT style ) one of the " fingers " that
touches the memory card gold contact is lower than the rest.
Someone before I got it messed it up or the part is/was bad from supplier to IBM.
All I do when it won't boot up from being asleep ( hibernate ) or off is reseat the
memory in slot 1 and it powers up. Let it run, cycle it correctly, turn it off, go back
it won't boot up. Yes, I swapped out known good memory cards...
Because the card is SMT it is not all that easy if not a waste of time to fix.
BTW, I spent 30 yrs. an an electronic tech from motherbaord assembly to engineering
in the last days of 3Com when they died in Santa Clara around 2005 because they were
stupid, I was a contractor.
I might just hard wire a single 128MB card to the M/B, or 256MB.
This is just because I'm used to building prototype stuff in the lab.
Don't try this trick on your own with your # 1 machine.

Good luck with your machines, Doug
