Memory upgrade for A30

#1 Post by madmaven » Tue Mar 16, 2010 10:43 am

I found where the A30 will take 2x512 mb pc133 for a gig. but when I look on ebay for that chip Extreme ram tells me the pc133 will not work on the intel 810, 815 chipset. the closest thing I can find to determining if the 810 is on the A30 is an obscure graphics reference to the 810 chipset being on pentium IIIs. soooo does anyone know what the graphics chipset is on the A30 of if I am barking like a cat and the 810,815 chipset is a graphics chipset.??? Would like to find some decent memory to upgrade this old work horse but dont want to get stuck. So could use advice as to where to buy and what to expect costs. the Extreme Ram company on ebay wants about $22 per piece. thanks MM

The A30 is based on the i830 chipset and supports up to 2x512MB SDRAM.
In my experience the A30 will accept any PC133 SDRAM stick and is even sensitive to CAS latency of the memory sticks used.
So cheaper sticks should work fine, just don't buy some no-name stick.
A30's have Radeon M6 video cards with 16 or 32 MB of memory.

My last A30 worked great with a "no-name" for $22, BTW...
