G40 just received. First impressions from a A31 user.

#1 Post by TRON2010 » Wed Apr 28, 2010 4:38 am

Hi everybody! :-)

Just receive my G40. Now I'm at work. The machine was very comfortable to type, A+ for ergonomy :-). It has a Celeron 2.0Ghz and run quietly and noiseless. No especial hot. The wattage is betwen 45-50 watts at normal operation (My broken A31 run at 25-30 watts)

When i return home, i will try to upgrade it to a Petium4 2.0GHz (Desktop processor at 400Mhz bus) and take from my broken A31 a 1GB RAM, a 7200RPM Seagate 100GB HDD and a TP-Link Draft-N 300MB mini-pci.

I will post the "upgrade experience" later.

Thanks for reading! :-)

Get in touch with seller, and put in a claim at eBay and PayPal. Escalate as soon as possible.
If you paid with credit card, you can probably do a charge-back.

In that order, too.

I've only ever had three problematic auctions, all of which were solved quickly and without any loss using the following method:

1) Take pictures. As soon as you receive the item, take pictures of everything, including the unpacking process. (I'm lazy, so I usually only do this for items costing > 100 USD, but it's still a good idea.)
2) Contact the seller. Explain the problem and ask them to fix it (full/partial refund, replacement on their dime, etc. as you see fit.)
3) If their response is *anything* other than "you're right, my mistake, a replacement/refund has been dispatched" (or similar), open a dispute with eBay.
4) Escalate the dispute with eBay/PayPal as soon and as high as possible until the seller has made things right.
5) If all else fails, and if you paid via CC, do a charge-back. Note: this will probably have negative consequences to your PayPal account (PayPal *really* hates users who issue chargebacks), so you might want to make sure that you don't have anything in your account that you can't afford to lose access to.

I've only once gotten past #3 (the first step is invaluable if you have to refute the old "it wasn't like that when I shipped it" line.) I've never gotten past #4 -- few sellers are masochistic enough to want an unsettled claim on their eBay account.

Good luck!

Thanks for your anwers. I contacted the seller. I waiting for his decision. I asked then for a new chassis remplacement or I open a dispute with ebay in the next 24 hours and also with PayPal. Meanwhile, I try to make run this machine. I dissasembly it and changed CPU, (P4 desktop at 2.0GHz), new HDD and 1 GB of ram. The machine run but, VERY STRANGE the fans not (and not error in bios). After a few minute i stop the machoine, NOT overheat, but I dont want risk to burn the CPU. There are any ptrogram to force the fan run to check if this is normal?

Thanks for reading :-)

Make sure you can put the machine back EXACTLY as you received it, in case you need to return it.
