A31p ~ did they all come with Flexview?

#1 Post by sysiphus » Sun May 09, 2010 1:33 am

My buddy just picked up an A31P--he claims that his didn't come with a Flexview screen...I was under the impression that they all came with Flexviews...who is right?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

According to the tawbook, they all came with UXGA-IPS (1600x1200) TFT color / Active Matrix / 400:1 contrast / FlexView display with wide viewing angle and high density using in plane switching (IPS) technology

If your buddy picked it up on feebay, he might have gotten one of those lovely "refurbished" machines...I got an A31p with a XGA LCD a few years back...

Someone might have just had a spare TN panel from an A21p or A22p...stranger things have happened...

Thanks for the replies--so, short answer is that a stock A31p should have FlexView, but with FrankenPads, anything's possible?

Good to know, thanks.

I haven't had a chance to play with his A31p yet, but it sounds like a nice machine to me--would it be crazy to pick one up for daily use? The design intrigues me, and I wouldn't mind giving an IPS panel a go. All I really use my machines for these days is Office 07/Firefox/iTunes on Windows, and similar level stuff on F12, so I'm not concerned about performance. Besides, with 2GB of RAM and a 7200RPM drive, it's got to be fairly snappy....right?

(I LOVE my T60, but it might be donated to a very worthy nonprofit I volunteer for which needs a new laptop after the old one got stolen :( I don't mind tinkering with an older machine myself, and my like new/perfect T60 would be perfect for the less-than-tech savvy people there)

You could also consider picking up an A31/p and donate that instead of your T60.
The A31 is extremely rugged and can handle abuse a lot better than a T60.

Interesting idea. I'm not so concerned about abuse as I am about part failure--I'm comfortable troubleshooting/replacing a bad part, whereas the people who'd be using the donated machine most likely wouldn't have that expertise/don't have regular access to "tech support". Given that the A31p would be significantly older than the T60 (which has hardly seen any use, to boot!), I figure the odds of something going wrong on the A are far higher than on the T.

To stay in the spirit, also consider a 15" R60 with Intel GPU and SXGA+ or even just XGA.

Nothing against charities, but your 14" T60 may not be the ideal machine for them.
