Single 2GB stick works in R52

#1 Post by eyestrain » Wed May 12, 2010 12:00 pm

A 2gb stick seems to work fine in an R52, even though we've been told it's limited to 1GB/slot.

Of course, if I were to add more memory, it would probably not be seen.

In case this helps anyone out there.

You're actually better off running 2x1GB in a R52 because of the dual-channel mode. Although the chipset limitation is 2GB, BIOS will "see" 2.5GB in some machines, while others won't even boot with a 2GB stick installed.

Interesting.

Dual channel-makes sense. Really I only expected 1gb to be visible, I happen to be out of 1gb sticks at the moment. :)

If I ever get around to it, I guess I could experiment with 2.5gb and the BIOS setting for reserved memory for suspend mode, to see if there's any benefit of 2.5g vs 2g. Mostly for fun, I'm not usually one to reach hard to max out memory, and it might be possible to suspend without that setting, depending on my Linux install/Live CF.

Does anyone happen to know if there's any benefit to using cl4 4200 memory in an R52/T43, vs cl5 5300 memory? Will the cl5 5300 memory run at cl4 in the slower computer? Decent memory, such as those with IBM stickers on them, or Samsung, Hynix, etc.
