r52 internal hdd not seen by bios
r52 internal hdd not seen by bios
Hi
I cloned the internal hdd to an external drive, removed the internal one,
put a new empty drive into the hdd bay intending to clone the clone back to
the new drive. I booted from cd (acronis) but it told me I only had one hard drive.
So I rebooted into the bios and sure enough it did not see an internal drive.
I put the original back in and now it isn't seen either.
I've now tried several hdds in the internal bay, which work fine as external drives,
but the bios, and the os, see none of them.
The drives do not plug in easily, but they do seem to get into place eventually.
When I remove them there's no apparent damage to the pins.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Try flipping the drive over? I don't recall on an R52, but on many machines they go in upside down. The green (or blue) PCB on the drive goes face down into the hard drive tray/caddy.

Thanks Harry. I tried to put it back the same way it was when it
came out, but maybe I didn't do it right.

R52 is the same as T43. HD goes in upside down.
You must use the caddy arounf the HD to get a proper fit.

Hi Harry
Hi RBS
Thanks for the immediate, and gentle, recognition of my problem.
When I put the drive in with the metal side/side with printed label
down/away from keyboard not only does it go in smoothly
but the bios sees it and it boots. Amazing.
