Hello,
and many, many thanks to Forum and his kind members to share so useful informations, two years ago i never touch any laptop screw and i learn all here, though i am mecanics involved wich helps ..!!!
So it's time for me to share!!!
I start with a R50p 1832-23G with a dead ATI MB ,an SXGA+IPS LCD (IDTECH 91P6680)from a T42 and R52 Mobo with INTEL 915GM and Firewire port(39T5648)...
*I put R52 MB in the R50p case, along with the R52 long Fan.
*I put the T42 LCD Panel in the R50p lid and here some tips:
1)I used the original T42 SXGA+ Cable(91P6857),as the location of the little suspend mode switch is different in R5x/T4x,you need to cut the tiny little black plastic button of the switch on the cable/MB connector, otherwise the keyboard bezel will permanently push on it when screwed..(of course you loose the fonction but Fn+F4 is not so tiring..!!)
You should also modify the metallic holder plate of the T42 cable/MB connector,on the left hole there is a little brass tubular spacer, you need to pull it out for the R5x keyboard bezel beeing flush when closed..
I put it upside down ,tubular part in a fitted hole of a wood block and draw it out with a little punch, worked fine ...
You can also use the R50p metallic connector holder plate but you have to play with Dremel/files to allow clearance for the cuboid switch..
About the Lid/inside fitting of the cable ,on the T42 one there is not metallic little strip with a common hole for one of Lan antenna, but putting little tension on the cable towards MB connector it's "T" will fit in a sqare plastic recess in the R50P plastic chassis...
The other way is to pull the metallic part from the UXGA R50p cable and set it on the other, but you run the risk to damage the UXGA cable as it's "stick"hardly (spare part loosed for other R50p..)
2)I used the original Inverter from the R50p(91P7336),because the T42 one(93P4161) has bad location hole for the commonInverter/LCD bezel screw and furthermore run a risk to have pressure on some components of the inverter board..
IPS UXGA and SXGA+ are switchable and here UXGA R50p/SXGA+ T42 inverter switch work like a charm...
*I put the R52/Long fan and here some tips:
1) you need to install the fan BEFORE installing Bluetooth/Modem adaptor and BEFORE installing WIFI card because you have to move upward the big plastic sqare "Antenna cable guide" to allow clearance for the GPU heatsink of the Long fan..
2)you will notice an other problem with this "ant cable guide",as it's the R50P one it
don't fit exactly with R52 Log fan, ther is a corner-to-corner contact with the CPU heatsink ,so you have to scrap the plastic corner of the guide with a sharp knife to allow guide to contact on MB on the bottom.....
*Last detail, when scewing the Keyboard,be careful not to tighten too hard the screw nearest the touchpad area,on the R50p MB its one of the ATI Heatsink but on the R52 Intel there is no spacer to stop the keyboard going downward so you get the Keyb. and 3 Buttons of the Touchpad curved downward on this point...
So this screw just to contact..
AND NOW TIME FOR A QUESTION/
The R52 mobo(39T5648) comes with a Pentium M725A,as it's a 915GM i gess it could support M740/750/760 etc. Series and 740A /750A/760A etc. with 533 Bus,could you confirm?
I apologize for my somewhat approximative English Language and the long post but i think those details can help....
Best regards
Eric

Re: R50p base/INTEL R52 MB/T42SXGA+IPS FRANKENPAD .....
Really nice work.
Regarding the CPU choices, if you can keep it cool, you can go up to the 760. I think you have to be a little careful with the "A" CPUs as all may not be in the BIOS. If you are focused on one, then post a question in the forum to see any others have had success with it.

Hi,
And thank you Underclocker for CPU infos..!!
I wil stay with your idea of 760 ,combined with NHC undervolting it should be a good balance between performance and cooling,i like quiet laptops and don't need powerfull beast ...
Happy to see you appreciate my work ..!!
Best Regards from France
