R61 WXGA LCD Panel Upgrade to WXGA+ Problem
Hi everyone, I am now using a lenovo notebook R61 7733-A91 (Link Here). My notebook fall on the ground and the lcd panel is broken. Now, it got a lot of black patch when switching on. And now, I want to install a new LCD panel by my self as the warranty is over.
I would like to take this chance to upgrade my notebook to WXGA+. My original lcd panel is of FRU: 43T0492 and I can find another LCD panel of 42T0427, which is 1440x900.
Can I just buy the new LCD panel and replace the old one and the 1440x900 LCD panel works correctly?

Assuming you didn't break something else when you dropped it, it should work.

You shouldn't need to unless it was broken in the fall. Your R61 has a CFFL backlit screen and the 42T0427 is CFFL screen and was offered on the R400. It should be a drop in replacement.

I ask because I have heard someone saying that you cannot upgrade to other resolution. Otherwise, your computer will get hang.FredGarvin wrote:You shouldn't need to unless it was broken in the fall. Is this really exist?
Many thanks

Well, I've not done a screen swap on a R400, but the R400 was offered with the 42T0427 LCD. I can't tell you with 100% certainty, but I don't see a reason why it would not work. According to the service parts page, the inverter and cable would be the same. I've upgraded other Thinkpads with higher resolution screens, but again, since I've not done it on a R400 I can't say with absolute certainty.
