Heat on palmrest!

#1 Post by neo1211 » Thu Jun 10, 2004 10:25 pm

My thinkpad is R50-5LH. during the purchase, i changed the original harddrive 80GN to Dk23FB-60, for higher speed ,larger capacity and better performance. however, recently the terperature is higher and higher. now, it is 30℃ outside and 25℃ inside the room. in fact , i think the heat on palmrest is not so oppressive. but as guy who has to type in almost the whole day, i feel my palm just like a ant on the hot pan.
i know that it is impossible to cut the heat totally unless i change the HDD again . but i do believe that there must be some way to reduce it.
it is appreciated for your help!

a) Set the disk's spin-down value to be quite low (say, 5 minutes) so that it won't have a chance to get so hot. Depending on what you're doing with the machine it may never spin down though :)

b) Use an external keyboard if you can.

c) Put something under the ThinkPad that can perhaps conduct some of the heat away? Not sure how effective that would be.

Not sure what else you can do... but I'm surprised the disk is getting uncomfortably hot. I thought even the 7200rpm disks were reasonably cool.

thanks for your advice jon.
i will have a watercushion which is put under my laptop. but i wonder that how much heat it can absorb which would release to the palmrest.
this afternoon a friend of mine in another forum told me that i can put the hdd into the ultrabayslim hdd shelf. then the heater is replaced under the right palmrest. i will try it,
