CPU upgrade R52

#1 Post by john518 » Wed Aug 11, 2010 8:54 am

I am thinking of upgrading a R32 from a Pent.M 735 (1.7GHz) to a Pent.M 780 (2.26GHz).
Looking at the thinkwiki pages one is saying "1.73GHz, 1.86Ghz or 2.0GHz"
The other page is saying that the R52 can also use 780 (2.26 GHz), 770 (2.13GHz) and 765 (2.10GHz).
Can the upgrade be done and is there any that has to be done besides replacing the CPU?
thx

You talk about an R32 and an R52, which one is it?

R52 does not use the odd-numbered CPUs with 400MT/s FSB, like Pentium M 735/745/755/765 etc.
R52 takes even-numbered CPUs with 533MT/s FSB, such as Pentium M 730/740/750/760/770/780
Sweet spot is the 750 (1.866GHz).
Anything higher produces more heat and not that much gain in performance.

No problem, so my above info pertains to your laptop.
Also don't forget that faster CPUs use more power, thus shortening battery life.
