Z61T losing power abruptly with the new battery

Hi,
I am a newbie here.. so please pardon me if I am not posting the question correctly.. i will try to make it right with your help..

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad z61t 9440 with Windows Vista business. Recently my original battery went dead. It reported that there is an irreperable damage to the battery and needs replacement. So I researched the market and bought an OEM battery from amazon.com (ASM 92P1126) (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001EO ... ss_product).

It worked fine for the first couple of days. However, after that, I started experiencing sudden loss of power (without any warnings) every half hour or so - even when I was connected to AC power. The only thing that had changed was the battery. So I removed the battery and started using the laptop without battery. The problem went away.

Can someone help me figure out what is the problem and how to rectify the issue. I can still return the battery if needed.
