Is it worth it to spend $140 to get my R40 working again?

I've got an R40 that i am now locked out of. Prior to the lockout, the harddrive was getting bad. It looks like, with luck, I can get it back up and running for about $140.
--approx. $100 to bypass the locked password.
--another $40, probably, for a new (newly used?) hard drive from ebay.
then, i am simply trusting that everything else will work.

my concern is that i might spend this $140 and then still be stuck. But, the upside is that i might be able to have a working computer, and access to all my data, for only around $140.

Just wondering if anybody who is more knowledgeable about the system than I could give me some tips or info to help me decide?

Welcome to the forum!

You can access your data from the drive from another computer, using an USB enclosure.

Personally, I would not spend anywhere near $140 to get a R40 up and running again, but it's your ThinkPad and your $$$...
