Most likely an A20m.

We will need the type # from the bottom of the laptop, eg: 2628-xxx.

yes it is an a20m 2628-2du. It originally had a 10L1411, which blew 2 years ago. The 12P3393 is listed as a replacement board for the following: 12P3153, 12P3193, 08K3315, 08K3276, 10L1412. It has since been superceded by the 12P3991.

I assume you are using (FRU 10L1415) PIII 500MHZ CPU.

I think the board is maxed out. That is an early set up and i do not think the 12P3393 will support MPGA2 CPUs with SideStepping such as 600MHZ or greater.

I really can not find out a whoole lot about 12P3393 though. You could always pcik up a MPGA2 700Mhz CPU on eBay for around $10 to try it out but I am pretty sure you're maxed out.

If you were to get an A2* system board that originally held a 700mhz you could up it to 1Ghz with no problem... But I really can't see spending all that unless you want bragging rights to having the fastest A2* out there... :D

I already have it, check the profile... hehehe
was it worth it.... 100 for the chip, 55 for the board, this was a year ago, my machine had a celeron 550 in it and now it runs like a almost current machine, it was worth it because this A20M(like my X20) is in perfect condition.

Update: After fighting with the overheating of the 1ghz, I traded it for a 900 with a friend of mine who joined the board recently (rivalarrival) And the 900 is much better suited for the cooling system of the a20m, fast and no lockups, and the 1ghz chip runs great in his t22

Just tried putting an 800MHz and a 700MHz chip in an IBM 08k3315 motherboard.

The chips were :

12p3448 - sl53m - 800MHz PIII M

and

10l1417 - sl3z8 - 700MHz PIII M

these ran at 650 and 550 MHz respectively. Those are the "battery saving" 1.35V speeds,
as opposed to the 1.6V normally used with these processors. Strange, i guess the board
can't supply enough power to the chip to run at full speed?

For what it's worth!

You'll also need a working battery inserted, to run that machine at full CPU-speed.
