Screen options for R50e

#1 Post by rhuffman » Tue Sep 28, 2010 12:33 pm

I have what seems to be a broken system board on my T60 - it does a long beep, 2 short beeps on startup, and no video. I got it to start once with an external monitor, but since then it has not shown video (if anyone thinks this isn't the board, let me know). Luckily I have a 15" R50e that was given to me recently, so I've been fixing that up. The biggest downside right now is that it has a 1024x768 screen which I'd like to upgrade to SXGA - UXGA is an option, but I think the high res might strain my eyes (1920x1200 on 15" did, higher DPS though). I have a 15" T42 that suffered the video card problem, which has a SXGA Flexview available. Would this screen be compatible with the R50e? The frame/bezel is different so everything would have to be taken apart, but would it be a smooth transition, or would I need to replace cables, inverters, etc?

Thanks!

From what I undersatnd of the 'e' machines - no it will not drive SXGA. I tried it on a R51e and could not drive a SXGA.

We have some good R52 machines with 15" XGA LCDs and Intel GPU.
Those machines can drive a 15" SXGA+ LCD, so your transplant could work fine.
You'd need a different SXGA+ LCD cable, but use the same inverter.
R52 also require the (cheaper than PC2700) PC2-4200 Sodimms.
You can use the hard disk and power supply from your other machine.

Would it be safe to try using the SXGA cable and LCD from my t42 with the inverter from my R50? Thanks!
