Ultrabay battery not charge, no error messages

#1 Post by jj0975282 » Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:25 pm

Hi.

I have Lenovo R61 8918DFG (with Ultrabay Enhanced) and new ultrabay slim battery. The battery model is 45K1749 and "Replace: 57Y4536" is written on it.
New battery worked fine during discharging. I discharged both batteries (main and the new ultrabay one), but when I plugged in AC adapter, only main battery started to charge. Now main battery is 100%, but ultrabay battery 0% and nothing happen. There are no error messages shown by Power Manager. Battery status in Power manager: No activity.

How can I charge the ultrabay battery?

My friend has tried the battery on his notebook (R500) and everything is ok. What can be wrong with mine notebook?

Have you tried any other ultrabay devices in the ultrabay slot? If nothing else works in that slot, it is probably a motherboard issue. Even if other devices work, it may still be a motherboard issue specific to the battery charging circuitry.

The only one another ultrabay device I have ever had is DVD-ROM and it works great.

Can it be a software problem? Or can I confirm the motherboard issue by trying the battery in another R61 notebook?

I don't see how charging or not charging a battery could be a software problem. If you shut the laptop down all the way and plug it in, it should charge batteries. There is no software in control in that mode. By all means test the battery in someone else's laptop.

Hello

I borrow this thread to ask a question about that ultrabay battery: can it be configured from the batt manager like a primary battery? (set charging thresholds for example)

Hopefully jj0975282 gets his battery/laptop back in order :)

You have the same oportunities for both batteries.

First I have to find someone with R61  .

If you remove the main battery, will it then allow you to charge the secondary battery?

No, the yellow battery icon on notebook takes red color, but that is all.
