Using 2nd SATA chanell on 82801FBM ICH6M (R52, T43...)

Hi,

I have Thinkpad R52 1846AQG, with original 60GB 5400 Hitachi PATA HDD and DVD PATA burner in bay. Want to add (or replace old HDD) with new WD Scorpio Black 500GB 7200.

In Thinkpad one SATA channel is connected to original PATA HDD over the 88SA8040 SATA/PATA bridge, and one IDE PATA channel is used for ultrabay. System is based on Intel 82801FBM(ICH6), and in chipset datasheet, for mobile version, there is 2 SATA ports. So there is possibility to use 2nd SATA channel for new HDD.

I found on net information how to remove SATA/PATA bridge, or connect new SATA HDD without removing the bridge. But didn't found anything regarding 2nd SATA channel. So maybe somebody already tried this?

If the 2nd SATA channel is enabled, max 4 devices can be connected to ICH6M, 2 on SATA and 2 on PATA IDE.

And relation between BIOS boot devices and SATA/IDE controller...
3 possible HDDs, and 2 possible CDs, not clear.

Now is clear. On the picture is booting order, with DVD removed and another HDD (SDD) in the bay.
So IDE HDD 1/2 and ATAPI CD 0/1 is related to devices in the bay, and probable 2nd SATA is disabled.
