R32 boot screen takes approx 2 minutes to clear

#1 Post by tkexer » Tue Oct 26, 2010 9:27 pm

I have an IBM Thinkpad R32 and whenever I turn it on or restart it, the startup screen where it says press F1 to... and press F12 to.... takes approximately 2 minutes to disappear, before loading Windows. I have inserted a brand new CMOS battery, but this still keeps happening. Any idea why?

What happens if you put the CDROM drive tops in boot order in BIOS, and boot up with a bootable CD in the ultrabay drive? Does the boot screen still hang?

run diagnostics on the hard drive (in the bios). The disk might be taking too long to respond. Now is the time to make sure you have a good backup of important information.
