R32 Active Network adapter turns off during startup?

#1 Post by alienzen » Tue Mar 15, 2005 1:33 am

AS indicated, an R32, WinXPPro sp2, just followed the assistance of folks in another forum to clean a massive infestation of adware.

Now, when I have the laptop connected to the network, the lights on the Thinkpad and on the router indicate the connection is good. As it boots, when it gets about where the black 'Windows XP' screen with the blue status bar appears, the connection goes dead. The lights on the router, and on the port on the thinkpad, turn off.

When I use the network wizard to set up a home network, it tells me it cannot find the network hardware, and when I try the install hardware wizard to install the network adapter, it fails with error 31 (drivers not installed). I followed the troubleshooter and uninstalled/reinstalled the adapter, rebooted, and it does the same thing. How can I get this operational again?

Thanks

NIC errors are common after adware has been removed.

Sometimes fiddling around with the software will get it working again but sometimes you will need to wipe the hard drive and do a fresh install...
