Z60t trouble after updating ThinkVantage.

#1 Post by titanik » Tue Nov 16, 2010 4:47 pm

My DVD drive would not read (I/O Errors) so I went to ThinkVantage/Maintenance/Update my system... maybe a driver needs an update? I had not run the System Update in some time and it downloaded about 15. Everything went smoothly, reboot, and...

Here's the known trouble:

1) Fingerprint scanner is disabled. I can login with password.
2) The DVD drive still cannot read.
3) The biggie... I cannot get online via ethernet cable or wireless. A direct ethernet connection does nothing. Wifi- I can go to ThinkVantage/Wireless/Power On/Off Radios and see that the radio is on. The manual switch in front of the laptop is on. Still, I cannot connect and the troubleshooting says it is because the radio is off.

I called Lenovo but my warranty expired and, despite their update doing this, they refuse to help. Also, System Restores have failed. Do you have any suggestions?

Can you go to Device Manager for your Wireless Adapter /Properties /Advanced and "roll back driver" to previous before update driver?

Would you be open to installing Windows 7? If you have at least 1 GB of memory you might solve your problems and be happy with the installation. Perhaps not the answer you are looking for...but I would do it in a NY minute.

Was the restore that failed the Windows one or the Thinkpad R&R?
