82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller driver

#1 Post by leftbrain99 » Tue Dec 07, 2010 5:02 pm

Z61T 9440-A23 T5500 945GM upgraded to Win7 x64

USB Controllers showing up as
Intel (R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8, - 27C9, etc

Driver date is 6/21/2006. I have downloaded all appropriate drivers from the Z61t driver matrix, but I realize that Lenovo does not "support" Win7 on this machine. The USB ports are working well, but I suspect one possible problem. Avid Digidesign ProTools 8.0.4 loaded the correct USB drivers for the hardware audio interface and they show up on the Device Driver list but once I launch the application it does not "see" the hardware interface connected, even though the machine does see it.

Avid is suspecting an issue with the USB drivers and that seems logical since these are obviously not Win7 drivers. I cannot seem to find an updated driver for Win7 x64 to use either through Lenovo or through Intel. Windows Update also does not find a suitable replacement. DriverAgent scan indicates that they are out of date, but provides no info on the correct driver, either.

Based on this:
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/i ... 021325.htm

I don't believe that I am looking for a new chipset driver, but I don't really know what I should be looking for. I should add that this setup (same OS, software installation, and the very same hardware interface) works perfectly on my desktop PC and it also worked fine on this Z61t with Vista x32 installed. I'd rather not roll back to Vista, though, especially when I know this should work.

Thanks in advance!

hi left*,,,
sorry I dont have the Z series machine anymore ,,, but I ran thru simialr issues (I remember_i had 2 issues FPreader and USB host...).... so I jsut installed X64 drivers from Vista and it worked , never has had any issues from the current user , till now....over years use now with win7x64...

No harm to try ,, as you always roll it back! (since Win7 is not officially on APPROVED list for win7 upgrade list , they not going to fix that rather minor issue with driver)

Hope this helps
cheers

Exactly. That's what I'm trying to find - ANY updated 64-bit driver (Vista OR Win7) for these USB host controllers. I'm not having any luck finding what I need - that's why I'm here. So, do you know where you found these drivers? I'm searching and searching...

Thanks for the help.

OK, well, how about this? I assume that most of the machines in this class (R, A, G, and Z) use the same or similar USB interface and the Intel 945 chipset. And I'm sure that a number of people here are running Win7 in 32 or 64 bit mode. Would anyone who has upgraded to Win7 be able tell me the date stamp on their 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller driver and whether they are running in 32 or 64 bit mode? That could give me a clue as to whether there may be one more recent than mine available somewhere. Then I can decide whether or not to keep looking for one. Mine is 6/21/2006.

Thanks!!!

Since the Z61 is derived from the T60 (and not the T61), any T60/R60/X60 Vista/W7 driver should work.
