Z61M Windows 7 Fast LRDA Driver Solution Finally

#1 Post by boblepp » Sun Dec 12, 2010 6:42 pm

I've spent hours over 2 days trying to find a safe working link for a driver to resolve a device showing an error under 'Other Devices" "Unknown Device".... "on Intel(R) ICH7M/U LPC Interface Controller - 27B9" Unknown Device in Device Manager.

Finally I found the answer in this post: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For ... e6d1453ed2

The exact Intel(R) ICH7M/U LPC Interface Controller - 27B9 device was in the list and the problem went away. Finally

The drivers for this device are included within the Windows 7 installation already, you just need to browse for them

Right click on the device, and goto Properties.

Goto the Driver tab, and click on Update Driver.

Click on the "Browse my computer for driver software" option, then let me pick from a list of device drivers.

Click on the show all devices option, and then select Intel from the Manufacturer side.

In the right hand side (Model) scroll down until you find your Model, in my case it was Intel(R) 82801FBM LPC Interface Controller - 2641.(Note the (R) on Intel.

Click on Next and hey presto, the correct Windows 7 driver will be installed without any additional downloads.

Hope this helps someone.

That's interesting. I solved the same driver issue on my Z61t simply by installing the National Semiconductor Fast IR port driver that came up in Windows Update. It was documented at the end of this thread from the week before last. The very same Unknown Device on the same controller port. I'm sure this will help someone out. Like you, I spent a fair amount of time trying to resolve this.

I have actually had a lot more luck using the drivers from Lenovo's T60 driver matrix as they list more drivers for Windows 7, which Lenovo does not officially support for the Z-series, even though much of the hardware is the same. I've installed Windows 7 half a dozen times in the last two weeks to troubleshoot a software compatibility issue and I've tried lots of different drivers in the process. Going down the list of T60 drivers gets me the best results, and much more quickly. I believe the only driver I could not get off of the T60 driver matrix was the TI flash media driver, which I got from the Z61 driver matrix.
