Accidentally Found Another Use For One of My R32's ...

#1 Post by lparsons » Thu Jan 20, 2011 11:28 pm

I have two working R32 laptops currently; one of which I am the original owner of. I recently purchased a T510 to be my new main laptop, with the plan to decommission the R32s.

Then ... my webserver at home died on me. I don't have a lot of web traffic, so my webserver was just a Dell Optiplex desktop that I picked up from work. Said dell died of the infamous exploding capacitor problem that plagued so many Dells in recent memory. I couldn't get a replacement system immediately, but I wanted to keep my website up.

Hence I called on one of my R32s for the save. Granted they are both older than the Dell that just died but the one I selected seems to be handling the task admirably while I await the new system I ordered to take up the slack.

In other words - score IBM two (at least), Dell negative 3,843 (at least). I also have a growing pile of other Dells in or near my office at work which have suffered the same fate. No surprise that the various non-Dell workstations I have ordered are faring much better.
T510 - 4313-CTO: New from Lenovo January 2011. Core i5, Discrete Graphics, 8GB RAM, 320GB HD, 9 Cell. Win7 when I must, Kubuntu when I can
R32 - 2658-A7U: P4m 1.6Ghz, 2GB/250GB, XPP / FBSD 7.2 - 7+ years old and still ticking
R32 - 2658-BXU: P4m 1.5Ghz, 128MB/80GB, XPP; mostly for parts
