A22p Windows Install Problem

#1 Post by RWDPLZ » Mon Feb 21, 2011 2:09 am

Just got an A22p 2629-PFU, and I'm having trouble installing Windows 98 SE (which is what the COA sticker is for, and the computer originally came with). I can run Fdisk off the original Windows 98 boot disk floppy and format the drive, but when I try to install off the CD it gives me an error. Tried an original Windows disk and an old backup, exact same error.

"Setup cannot install Windows 98 on your computer. An error was detected while formatting your primary hard disk partition."

The hard drive is a new old-stock 4200 rpm 30GB Hitachi Travelstar, was still sealed in the anti-static bag. I was able to install Ubuntu 10.04, after fixing a minor video driver problem, it ran perfectly.

Any ideas?

Do an FDISK first to wipe out all partition info.
Than stick the HD in a USB case, and attach to a laptop with XP.
Try Diskmgmt on your 'new' HD and use the function "Initialize".
Put the HD back in your A22p and try FDISK/format/install W98 again.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
