R60 with blank screen

#1 Post by pcengine92 » Mon Mar 07, 2011 4:05 pm

I recently purchased a used r60, but when I go to boot, I only get a blank screen. The indicator lights all work fine, the fan and hard drive both spin, and the optical drive is recognized, so it seems to be running fine otherwise. Could it be a bad inverter, or bad RAM slots, or something else?

Are you using a non-IBM AC adapter?
Those quite often do not supply the required proper voltage and amperage.

Yep, it's a genuine lenovo a/c adapter. Like I said, everything is connected and running, but blank screen.

Ok, I think I've nailed the problem. I removed the fan and inspected the cpu and found 2 bent pins. I managed to correct one, but the other one snapped off. I'm not going to try to solder on another pin, as it'll be easier to purchase another cpu.

I placed the cpu back in the socket, and the unit still boots up with blank screen. I took apart the lcd and hit the power button a few times, and the screen finally lit up. However, if you tried to reboot, the blank screen problem begins again. So I think it's the video cable. I know my screen is 15", but how do I tell if it's widescreen?

What's the (7) digit alpha-numeric machine type/model number from the sticker on the bottom of the machine? It will be something like 2347-2CU

Model number is 9457-CTO. Can I use a replacement video ribbon from a T6x series?

The 9457 came in 14.1" and 15" versions, no widescreens. I would say yes, you can use the LCD cable form a non-widescreen 15" T60.
