A31 RAM not showing up

hi,
i've been running my dear ol' A31 as an internet machine for, well, years. recently i noticed the installed 1GB RAM is down, showing as 512MB in BIOS and in Win XP computer info. of course the machine's running much slower.

i replaced one chip with a new one with no change. i swapped out the other old chip and no change. at this point, all modules have been re-seated and all of the pins looked fine. i am pretty sure this is a hardware issue as little has been changed in terms of software, OS, etc. also the machine gets transported from time to time. is this a common problem with these machines?

Try just running a 512MB chip in one slot, then transfer it to the other slot. The slot may be dead. Best way to check it in my opinion.

thanks - that helped me troubleshoot which slot was acting up. don't know if one of the old chips is bad, but i really had to almost force the new chip in to seat it properly. once that was in & working, i installed the other old one and voila! 1GB!
