Thinkpad R61 fan error

#1 Post by arty » Wed Apr 20, 2011 1:30 pm

hello everyone,

i arrived here in a desperate try to fix my laptop

i can clearly see you guys have been doing a great job here...

i am an owner of a thinkpad r61 laptop which suddenly started to show a fan error problem right before booting the OS
along with that the fan started to make a wierd noise

so , took the fan out and ordered a new one from IBM

3 weeks later(without having a working laptop) the new fan arrived

the new fan looked exactly the same

i installed it and i tried to power on the machine

now the fan seems to be working and the temperatures seems to be ok 40C idle 60C on high load

but i STILL get the same fan error message at boot time(i have to press esc key in order to bypass it)

do you know what am i supposed to do now?

PS: the fan seems to work fast for half a second and a little slower for another half and it goes on like that, if it means anything

Welcome to the forum!

Do you have the latest BIOS and EC on your ThinkPad?

If you do, I'd presume a bad sensor on the motherboard.
