R40 and IBM hidden partition

#1 Post by MarcosV » Tue Mar 29, 2005 12:54 pm

Hi All,

I would like to remove IBM's hidden partition on my hard drive and use the space on my C partition..

Has anyone done this successfully? Since it's hidden, do I need a special tool to do this?

Thanks and regards,

Jim

i think there's an option in the bios (press f1 when starting up) to show the hidden partition so it's available in windows for formattting etc. once you've set it to show i don't think you can use it for recovery anymore though afaik.

If I am curious about the size and contents of the hidden partition, can I press the F1 at startup, do a little looking around and then on restart will it be hidden again? Or do I need to do something special to re-hide it? Or is the partition forever no longer hidden?

not sure - you might not be able to re-hide it once you've had a peek. it's about 3 gig or something - i asked ibm for recovery cds instead as i was upgrading the hd, so they sent me 4 CDs.

MarcosV,

Read this.

There is an option in the BIOS to show the hidden partition. BTW you can rehide it whenever you want.
