Anyone have A30/A31 Recovery CDs?

#1 Post by ltgrady » Tue Mar 29, 2005 3:25 pm

What a couple of days I have had. IBM replaced my hard drive about 8 months ago and I went out of warrenty in November. Three days ago my MS Office blew up with bad disk sector errors.

So for the last few days I have been trying several different things to install my preload onto a new 80GB drive I've bought. It really seems like IBM has made it impossible to do w/o the disks that they will happily sell me for $50+ shipped. I've tried their R&R software, but it didn't work and I was told by tech it doesn't work on these models. I tried several partition copy scenarios that have all failed.

This is my last ditch effort before paying IBM for something I ALREADY OWN THE RIGHT TO USE!!! This is beyond frustrating. I have an MSDN subscription, every shred of software on my system is legal, I am only trying to recopy the software I bought from them, on a drive they replaced that has failed, and they refuse to send me the disks.

So, before I have to swallow my pride and fork over the $50, does anyone have an ISO of the recovery disks I could download? I'm running XP Pro and can send whatever verification you need that I have legal copies and licenses. If anyone does please email me or PM. Thanks.

What is the model number?

And where are you located. Update your profile with locations please. It is not mandatory but it helps in cases like this.

The model number does not matter at all (only the OS). Any recovery CDs of the A31 series will work (even of the other models, like e.g. T23, will work. when the needed drivers will be installed later).

Why would the knowledge of the location of the thread opener help you?

There is a list of model number on my recovery CDs. Just wanted to make sure that his was on the list. I would not want to spend my time duplicating the CDs, mailing it to him and then all for nothing.

If the opener is located in Australia I don't think I would mail it internationally to him unless he is willing to pay for the postage.

I don't have an FTP server where I could host this ISO image file, so the only way I could help him would be via mail.

Larry,

Ever get over by me? I'll burn you a set and you can pick them up.

James,

That sounds great.. I was going to mail it to him tomorrow, but I guess if he is close by and you don't mind doing it that it will definitely be quicker and he can take care of the system over the weekend.

Can I get in on some of this action? I need the recovery discs for the A31 2652-PCU/PBU. Anybody got them?

Because as we've said innumerable times, one answer doesn't fit all and our responses can be much more accurate if we know where the poster lives.

In this particular instance Larry lives approx. a 1/2 hour's drive from me and I'll be giving him a set of CDs later today I burned for him.

It also serves to prevent responders from fruitlessly replying "Oh, you can pick that up in your neighborhood Radio Shack" when the OP lives in lower Slobbovia!
