a21e cd-rom replacement

#1 Post by decebal » Mon Jun 14, 2004 10:55 am

Hi everyone.

I have an old A21e(2655) Thinkpad that had a bad CD-ROM unit.

I received a new TEAC cd-224e unit but this happens:
1. when the CD-ROM unit is in place the following messages:

"Hard drive not installed:
If operating system not found,
re-install hard drive.
Hit any key to exit."

then
"Operating system not found"

also in this case in BIOS something weird is displayed instead of HDD

2. If I remove the unit ... everything is ok. Booting normal and so on ...

This means that something is wrong in installing this new cd? OR am I missing some step in installing the new CD-ROM ?

Any ideeas please. It is for a friend of mine.
Thanks everyone.
